Berkley Original Moss Green Fireline

Featured Replies

This spring I purchased some Berkley original moss green fireline in 20 pound test.  I realize it was not new even though it was an unopened package because Berkley stopped making this several years ago. So what I bought had been sitting on somebody's shelf for a couple of years.  When using the line I noticed right off that I had lost some casting distance compared to some I had purchased when it was manufactured and was still on the reel.  My reels are all Pinnacles and they are excellent reels.  So I know the reel was not the problem.  Has anyone noticed if this particular Berkley line becomes sticky if it is not used within a certain amount of time after manufacture?  Do all braid lines become sticky is they stay in their original package for a couple of years? It think it is the only reason I lost casting distance.

If you've had a similar experience with this or any other braid please let me know.

Thanks,

Fred

I have the remainder of old Fireline I bought ages ago and do not use it because it is like casting wire compared to the new lines.  it is not your reel.

I use and like Fireline. The coating may be coming off. It should loosen up and get less sticky with use.

There are so many good options to this obsolete line that, in my opinion, wasn't very good when it was new.  Try Suffix Premium Braid or Power Pro, and I think you'll be very happy.  Try 15 pound test-it's stronger than 15 and adequate for just about anything.  It wil cast better than 20.

 I use and like Fireline.

Me too.

But he is talking about the original Fireline from maybe 10+ years ago.

I used it back then too and since it first came out, liked it then, like it now...for some specific situations.  It is not my primary line.
