Anyone Shoot A Benelli Nova?

Featured Replies

I was on my third dove hunt of this season yesterday and my Nova starting wedging shells against the side of the barrel in the chamber.  I started single loading to see if maybe it was double feeding but it didn't help.  It seemed to get worse as the day went on.  I still limited out but it was very frustrating to say the least.  Anyone else ever heard of this happening?  I am thinking I might need to have a gun smith polish the inside of the barrel where it was catching.

Have you stripped it down and cleaned it thoroughly lately? Try that, if not you might have a burr that needs to be smoothed out.

Oh, and congratulations on the limit! They're sweeter when everything doesn't go right but you can still pull one out.

Thank you preach.  Yeah, I am prior military so cleaning my weapons after every use is hard wired into me.  Is the burr thing pretty common?  This is my first non Mossberg shotgun and I've never had an issue before this.

ABit getting a limit with a single shot is impressive! It's been a few years since I have been, but last time out I went through a lot of shells without one.

The Firing Line is a firearms forum with a lot of knowledgeable people. A post there will get your questions about the Benelli answered. Anything other than Mossberg or Remington is mostly guess work for me. Good luck.

I've had that happen with cheap shells, using 2 3/4 in mine chambered for 3 1/2. Don't know why but only did it with one brand of cheap birdshot. Never had the problem with duck loads.it also lends itself to short stroking, so that could be part too.

I have the Nova and love it. I will say that with the cheaper shot shells, it seemed to be temperamental with. I stopped buying the big box store 4 packs, and haven't had an issue since. I use it for everything from dove, ducks, geese, turkey etc. I'll stick to my Ithaca for quail and roosters.

Same thing with my stoeger pump, it sees action for ducks and geese and every now and then a turkey hunt. For upland I stick with a 12 and 20 guage Ruger Red Label.
