Warrenton //// Luray Area?????

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Im up here visiting and need some ideas for bass sports. I tried Germantown Lake and Lake Brittle today. Seems wind was killing it for me. I see a lot of places here on googlemaps. Just not sure if i can go to them or not. Also has anyone seen a sign that says a cooperative wetland project and has ducks unlimited and DGIF logos on it. I saw one at the entrance to what looked to be a good sized pond? There are no signs up saying no trespassing. Anyone know if your allowed to go back there?

Thanks

I suggest checking out the Shenandoah.  My wife and I drive out to Front Royal Canoe a number of times a year.  For less than $50, you can rent a canoe or kayak, get dropped off or picked up and float a few miles of some great smallmouth waters.

I've never had much luck on Brittle....at all.  As to bank fishing, things can be a challenge in the area; but I admit I'm not familiar with the small waters around there.

How far is lake brittle from your location?

If you tried Lake Brittle you are not terribly far from Lake Fredrick. Its a larger body of water. However, I think wind will be a factor you will have to deal with almost no matter what this time a year.

You try lake arrowhead? Talk to NitroFreak if he is still around.

If your up for front royal then lake frederick isnt too far.

I used to fish lake Frederick alot. it has decent access around the shore and docks, used to catch nice shell crackers and crappie from it.

Also if you look on the DNR website it has lots of stocking and fishing info. If your over by the Thompson Wildlife management area off Leeds manor road.

it had a pond that they stocked with trout, I have bluegill and bass in there.  Not too far away is a little farm pond at sky meadows (not same entrance as the main park)

The pond in downtown winchester is also stocked as well as the pond at clearbrook park. I know these might be a bit of a drive but I figured I would put them out there.

In regards to the comment about the shenandoah, you have the low water bridge not to far from front royal, also the ramp under 50 and watermelon park.

Go to Wal-Mart and pick up a free copy of the Freshwater Fishing in Virginia booklet from DG&IF and look up the Warrenton/Luray area.

You will find a list of places to fish.

Good luck.
