As this is really only my 2nd year bass fishing, I'm still learing about the myraid of technicques and types of hardware..

 

Now I'm truely a multi species angler starting with pike and walleye in the spring, moving to bass for the summer, then pike/muskie in the fall.

 

This is what i carry on the boat while bass fishing.

 

Spinning:

• Fenwick Elite Tech 6'3" Med/Fast w/Shimano Symetre 8lb mono (shaky head, grubs, small jigs etc)
• Vintage Fenwick Goldwing 6'6" Med/? with Daiwa SS1300 8lb mono (Wacky, small jigs, etc)
• Fenwick Aetos 7'6" MedLt/Xfast w/Symetre 8 lb mono (drop shot)
• Vintage Shimano Beastmaster 7' MH/? w/Beastmaster Reel. 30lb. Power Pro (Big jigs, spinner baits, topwater, cranks, etc)

 

Casting:

• St Croix Rage 6'10" MH/Fast w/Chronarch 30 lb PP (Texas Rigs mostly)
• St Croix Mojo Bass 7' MH/MF w/Tatula 30 lb PP (Casting/trolling cranks and spinner baits)
• Bass Pro Extreme 7'6" H/Fast w/tatula type R 50lb Suffix Pro (Pitching/Punchin/Flippin)

 

Notes:

• I would like to replace both vintage rods eventually.  Now that I've been using Casting reels a lot more, I prefer them.
• I find my flippin stick a little to heavy for the size of fish we get.  Thoughts? Should I keep and get a slightly lighter pitchin rod or just replace it with a slightly lighter flip/pitch rod?
• I would like more uses for my rage worm/jig rod... thoughts?

 

Of course, anything else that comes to mind please let me know

The only thing I would add is a ML or M casting paired with a 7:0.1 reel.  Other than that, pretty sweet.

I suspect you're indicating my lack of  medium topwater, ML crankin rod?  I don't do much topwater but early in the year I fish a lot with scatter raps and flicker shads...

 

Wish my rod locker held 12 instead of 8...lol

Thank you, that's a good idea.  I'm just not sure what their action is.. I'm assuming fast but back then they never noted that on the blank..

Add 1/4-1/2 oz jigs to the Rage worm rod.

The 7'6" M-Lt spinning rod is a challenge, not the best choice for drop shot, move drop to your 6'3" Elite Tech combo.

The BPS Extreme 7'6" could be moved to your musky/pike fishing, the 7'6" spinning moved to your walleye fishing.

If you are not flipping heavy cover and prefer pitching or punch rigs, look into a rod for those presentations. What is a big jig to you?

That Bass Pro Extreme would probably be a good frog rod. I agree that a lighter pitching rod may be a good move, why not the Rage for that?

• I feel that the ML-XF 7'6" combo works fine for drop shotting as it has a really soft tip and great sensitivity which allows the fish to really grab the bait.  Sure, it may be a bit long but I haven't had any problems.  Its also good for slinging out unweighted plastics, reg or wacky.
• I do use the rage for jigs but I feel a short MH version of my elite tech would be a nice addition for 3/8oz and up jigs/tubes.
• I thought the BPS Extreme was a flippin rod??  It even has a telescopic handle. 

 

Obviously what you want is a set of rods that you can rig for a single application.  IE. Fishing heavy cover for LM, Jigging/crankin flats for smallies., Pitchin deep weeds for LM, etc.  I guess thats what I'm getting at. 

 

Let me think on this a bit and I'll get back to you all.
