i haven't used it but i doubt it would hold up well.

take a factory bait and just dip it in the polyurethane and get a few coats on there. then fish with it and see how it holds up.

Yea, I kinda had doubts Dave. I don't have an airgun or spray set-up, and would like to clear coat some of the lures I've got. what clear coat do most guys use?

Is there any I could use w/o a spray set-up?

devcon, etex, flex coat, DN, target coatings can all be used without a spray gun. actually most clear coats are used without a spray gun.

As a painting contractor, not bait painter, I have lots of experience with the poly.  I think it is too soft to use on a bait.  We don't use it on steps due to dents caused by shoes.  There are some other products you may find in a paint store that may be better suited.  Maybe XIM Clear 400?

I've used polycrylic for topcoat and it will not hold up for long; it will absorb water and turn cloudy and soft.

I might have to put some stuff over it then lol
