hello. I build a few cranks from time to time. the problem is finding the devcon since wallworld quit carrying it. so I am looking for a hassle free clear coat that is going to hold up as well as the devcon. the price has doubled on the stuff and it is just cost effective to use it if I do find it. there must be something better out there. here is a pic of what I build. any ideas appreciated. thanks

Nice looking baits

I use Flex Coat Ultra V high build for my clear coat.   I used Devcon for about 5yrs and imho flex coat is better.   It's thinner than devcon so 2 coats is a must but it's not as brittle and does not yellow.   Longer pot life after mixing, I could coat 6 of baits the size of yours from a mixed batch.   You have to turn the baits for at least 2hrs while it cures.   

the clearcoat seems to be the strenght of the bait so I ask ,is it as strong as devcon? how is it holding up for ya..

I've been using flex coat for 2yrs now and I've had no problems so far.   It's a very similar product to e-tex.

I can vouch for the flexcoat. I'm not a builder. I fish a lot of custom cranks, especially Big M's and I have seen no problem with the flexcoat.

I started using Flex Coat Ultra V this year and it has worked well for me.  One to two coats should be sufficient for most lures (although I frequently mess one of them up and end up using three or four coats).

Is there anyways to use the flexcoat without a drying rack? I dont have the finds/resources now to build one was wondering if you can let it set up a bit then just brush on and hang it?

I just hang my baits up and let them dry.  You will end up with a blob of epoxy on the tail but it can easily be removed with a dremel. You will also have quite a bit of wasted epoxy with this method as it will run down the bait and drip off the tail, but I've never had any sags or runs in the finish.

I'm not sure what you pay for your epoxy, but there is a company out of Califoirnia called AEROMARINE that sells expoxy. There prices and low and the stuff is is awsome. No blemishing and you can ever spray it through a HVLP gun. 

Here you go.... Get the big bottle's.. They last much longer and better value...
