Braid for everything here. I'll put on a mono leader if needed. Blood knot

    Tape it on to start.  The kind of tape doesn't matter...scotch, masking, ect. just not duct tape.

     

    I use the improved clinch knot with braid no problems.  You just HAVE TO thread it through the line tie twice and use 7 wraps no more no less. 

     

    As far as brand, I have used Power Pro for years.  But just last month I bought a spool of Daiwa J-Braid.  That stuff may very well replace PP for ever.  It's so much smoother casting/reeling it's crazy, but it is about a half size larger (50lb. is like 55-60lb. Power Pro).
