Glenn Springs Lake

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone has fished Glenn Springs Lake much in the late fall and winter? A lot of the grass has died off so it fishes much different this time of year. Any advice would be much appreciated!

I fish Glenn Springs a lot.  I was there a couple weeks ago and most of the surface grass is gone but if you can find small pockets of matted grass with at least a couple feet of water under them, then they are usually good for one or two fish. But as the grass dies down, I would be using a 3/4 oz jig on the points and on the channel edges. You will not get a ton of bites but they will usually be good ones when it is cold. Also have had some success using a carolina rig with a fluke on it.

Have you had any luck with top water baits at GS?

In my experience at GS in fall/winter, has been all about fishing creek channels and steep ledges around the main lake points and fishing around the dam. The rip-rap there tends to hold bass pretty regularly when the water starts getting cold. You just have to find which hump(s) they are relating to.

If you will be going soon, I would start in the coves and search for baitfish. The water has not gotten what I consider cold yet so there is a good probability a lot of bass will still be roaming shallower areas following bait. If you don't find them shallow, locate the nearest creek channel leading to deeper water, follow it and you should find a few. My best techniques there in late fall/winter have been jigs and Hudd 68's.

As druben said, I never catch numbers there in late fall / winter but the ones I do catch are nice. IMO it is the hardest time to fish there.

Thanks for the advice guys. I fished there yesterday and ended up with 9 total. All of them really small. Caught most of them in the coves with a Zara Spook and A KVD squarebill. Fished several points with no takers but this was right before the front blew in and the  wind was blowing about 20 mph. Couldn't fish them a thorough as I wanted. Surface temp was 63 degrees, was hoping to catch a few nice ones shallow but wasn't the case.
