Rod Modification

Featured Replies

I have a Berkley Lightning Rod 6'6" MH trigger rod that has a ridiculously long butt (like 11") and im gonna shorten it about 3" and make it a split grip. I'm doing it just to see how I like working on a rod and was wondering if there was a use for a 6'3" MH rod...it seems to short to be useful. Any ideas?

I have a few in the 6' 3" length 2 are spinnerbait rods and another is a skipping jig rod. Bother are from Castaway. HTH.

Skipping rod was my first thought...I don't do it often, but it's an extra rod so why not mess with it and see what I can do?

Go back 20 years and 6ft was an average size baitcaster.

No problem. Functional rod length is from the reel seat (your hand) to the tip. Cutting 3" off the butt won't change that.

In my mind, rods are tools and should be modified as you see fit.

Thanks for the help guys. I just got home where I have the tools. I might end up painting the whole thing just to give it a try. This could be fun.
