New Reel - Can I Put More Line On?

Featured Replies

This is a new reel to me. I normally fill it to about an 1/8" from the top, but if I go any higher it seems like it will be going at a downward angle to the eye (or whatever its called).

You could, I like mine with a tad more than that, but if it was mine I could live with it.

Fill it up to the bottom of the bevel on the spool (which also happens to be about 1/8" from the top of the spool).

Tight lines,

Bob

yeah, if it was me, I'd fill it to that beveled edge.

I always fill to the bevel.  Used the last of a filler spool of 12# Siege on my Curado 201E7.  Ran out of line about an eight of an inch or more from the bevel.  Since many manuals suggest filling 1/16-1/8 below I left it that way.  Didn't seem to hurt casting any.  Was getting better than average distance.  Decided I will take it on my next visit to Florida so I pulled a little line off to ensure I wouldn't cast into the splice knot and finished filling with 55# Samurai.  Casts even further now.

All this to say "fill it to the bevel".  :teeth:

I add some more. I fill to about 2mm from the bevel.

As everyone said here, yes you can and in most cases you should....

But for certain applications what you have will work fine.  If its mostly used for short distance casting/pitchin/flippin and jiggin' etc.  you're fine with the way it is.  Next time you re-spool, then fill er up like recommended.
