jig making

Featured Replies

I have been making my own jigs for sometime now and enjoy the hobby. However, the most difficult part of the process for me is the weedguard. The best way i have found to attach them is to use a drill and make the hole after i have powdercoated and baked the jigs. However, sometimes (especially black paint) the paint chips around where i drill. Any tips on getting around this problem.

thanks,

Yes,

I had custom made pins made so you can stick them in the weedguard hole, heat the jig with the pin in place, swish the jig through the powder paint with the pin in place, and then pull the pin out right away after you put it in the powder paint. Rack your jig, when your done with all of your jigs bake them in the oven. You will never have to clean a weedguard hole again. This works for heat gun painting. I do not know if this will work for torch heating. Also these pins are reusable over and over again. If you want more info PM me.

what cadman said. plug the hole before painting. I use 1/8th wooden dowell rods though instead of metal pins. Cut them up into about 1 1/2 inch pieces. keep about 20 or 30 for each color. You can get ALOT out of an 18 cent stick. If paint builds up, just get some pliers with some teeth and role it in the teeth and it will come off. I use a torch. Long as you hold the head at the right angle, no problems.
