Reel IPT

Featured Replies

Would a reel with  33 ipt and a 5.4:1 ratio be too fast for shallow and sqarebill crankbaits?

What reel are you looking at with those stats? 33 IPT seems pretty high for a 5.4. Regardless I burn squarebills with a 7.3 that pulls in around 32 IPT. So no, it's not too fast for me.

Spinning reel maybe...? As long as you can slow your retrieve down enough it won't be too fast.

My thought as well.

Shallow needs to be fast.  Ive caught bass burning squarebills and killing them in open water when a straight slow retrieve seemed to bore the bass.

It is the bps extreme spinning reel

Ah, that's my fault for assuming it was a casting reel. Personally I don't throw crankbaits on spinning gear. I know guys that do, just not for me.

Just unil i get a casting crankbait setup

As long as you can train your hand to slow down when needed, I'd say you'd be fine.  I did it for years with great success.
