Reel Help

Featured Replies

Hi I am going to be picking up a new reel for jigs. I have narrowed it down to 2, the lews speed spool lfs and the lews laser pro speed spool. I would go with the laser pro but it has a graphite frame and the lfs has an aluminum. So which one should I get? Are graphite frames really as bad as people say, will it be a big difference or problem?

Thanks!

EDIT- also would the 31 ipt on one make a big difference compared to the 28 ipt on the lfs?

Go with the speed spool lfs! I had the first model laser reel and it had a ton of flex in the frame and the gears were rough after using it twice.

Graphite isn't the dirty word it's made out to be sometimes. However, if you have the budget for a metal framed reel and plan on using it hard for years to come that's the way to go.

AII have a lazer pro, and it has actually surprised the heck out of me. I took it in on a trade hoping to use it as a parts reel for a tournament pro that I wore out, but found out that nothing would interchange between the two. So I gave it a try one day, and it actually fishes great. It is a very smooth reel, and is a casting machine with weights over 3/8 oz. I have caught quite a few fish with the reel and havent noticed any frame flex, it actually feels really solid (and a little heavy). The only thing I don't like about this reel is the drag, it is pretty jerky in its upper range.
