Shimano Curado 300E?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to pick up a good reel with some line capacity and a good drag. A friend has a Curado 300E that he's used very little and is willing to let go, but I have no idea what a used one in good condition is worth and don't want to steal it from a friend for $100. He received it as a gift and I don't think he's aware of what it cost new. What reasonable offer would you consider for one?

Papajoe,

I have been seeing them on boards for 175 - 210 depending on condition. I saw one for 140 once but someone snatched it up before I could. IMO 100 is a STEAL!!

In most cases I won't pay more than 60% of new for a second hand item if it's cherry. I don't know if the 300 is as sought after as the other E models so I guess it comes down to whatever you're comfortable with .

Maybe give him $100 and either some msc plastics or hardbaits if he is in need of some or treat him to dinner or drinks. Generally used in good condition they fetch at least $150+. If he is giving it to you for a deal ($100) as a gift for say a birthday or what not then do what you feel is right. Maybe offer him more or what is fair but if he insists you pay less that is one thing.

The 300e has held its value. I bought a barely used one for 180 about 5 years ago. Their a real work horse reel for heavy freshwater and light inshore. It does have brass gears, most other reel Manufactures with reels this size are going stainless.

This a husky reel in its build and great for large, heavy baits.

There is one on the flea market page on this site for $180 which is a fair price, I lucked into mine new on clearance for $149 about 4 years ago, I use it to throw the A rig on and it rocks for that.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The fact that he received it as a gift was the main reason for my hesitation. I took him up on the offer and offered having some fresh crabs shipped in so he can make us some of the best crab cakes this side of the east coast, not that I had alterior motives.

Sounds like a good deal for all!
