3D Printing

Featured Replies

I was wondering if any of you have a 3D printer that you have used for fishing related items? I know that BioSpawn used 3d printing to create molds for their baits. My school has a 3D printer and I was given the okay to use it this year for anything I want. My goal is to start a tech club or use it in my math class. I needed another mount on the bow for my Helix 5 so I played around and created one that I liked. The mounting is not standard but I will mount it to the floor anyway. I included the .stl file if anyone wants to play with it for their own needs. Would love to see examples if you have created things. This is a cool world and the creativity of it is limitless, for the most part.

It was a little overwhelming at first. This was mostly due to my inability to efficiently measure in metric. However, once I started playing around, it became quite simple. I have already attempted making worm molds, but again, my metric measurements got me. This mount is spot on though so I must be getting better at the measurement thing. I am interested in making a squarebill or two but am curious about how to attach the hooks and how to measure the bill exactly.

If you print a square bill you can put more material in one spot on the inside to add stability, then just use an screw in eyelet and glue it in. I found that getting the curves right was the hard part about printing any bait. Another problem with printing it is getting the weight balance right.

I was thinking of creating 3 cavities inside the bait and if needed, drill a hole and add epoxy to get the desired balance. I just wasn't sure if I had to have a wire going through the bait to both hooks or if the plastic (pla in my case) is strong enough for a screw attachment.
