Guide selection

Featured Replies

Hi all, just started building my own rods and I have a question about guide selection.  They have all sorts of designations that are pretty much meaningless to me, KBAG, KTAG, YAG, SV, CLAG, CYAG, and those are just fuji never mind alps, microwave, etc.  How do you generally pick spinning guides (casting too I suppose, but my next build is probably a spinner), and how do you determine what size stripper, choke, and running guides to use.  Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Those are just model designations. The key is on fujis site or just read the description on the sellers site. There are a number of systems for spinning guide size and placement. The Microwave kit is a no brainer. Simple and effective. I use it and Fujis kr concept. It's a little involved for here but is explained on Fujis site as well. Anglers resource.

Thanks, I'll check it out. It looks like they have a calculator too.

I second the recommendation for MicroWave guides on spinning rods. Buy a set, and get a couple of spare running guides. Place the stripper guide, transition guide, and first running guide using the dimensions provided with the set. Place the rest of the running guides by static testing.

This would be s great way to get your feet wet building spinning rods.
