Loomis GL2 804C JWR - $129

Featured Replies

The only GL I currently own is the "value" Loomis, the E6X - 783C MBR 6'8", MH/EF jig/worm casting rod.  And it is a _decent_ rod, but not at all worth the $189 I paid for it; slightly dull, fast enough, but just not very sensitive - I get as much if not more feedback on structure/bumps/strikes from my $99 Duckett Ghost. A local shop is selling their stock of the 6'8" GL2 804C JWR's (H/EF) for $129.  I plan to use it for it's intended use - jigs and worms, but also the occasional swimbait.  What say you on the $129 tag?  I am inclined to buy it because of the price point, but the rood just feels and looks beefy, for lack of a better term.  Seems sturdy, well-constructed, and the ergonomics are fantastic.  I don't know....maybe it was Utah.  Whatcha got?

EGS

I own several gl2 s and the 804c  It's a great rod and at that price is a steal ....Don't know why people give them a bad rap..

I have that rod in 3 power and paid that sa!e price.

I am happy with my decision so far. Rod is pretty nice and the grip is phenomenal

I don't know how this rod compares to the GL2 but on the St Croix website you could order a 6'8" MH fast action Rage casting rod for $89 free shipping and a free hat. I think they are around the same ballpark in price before sale.

The Rage is built on the same blank as the Avid which is a $200 rod.

Thanks for the heads-up; _Love_ my St. Croix MBG cranking rod.

Amen - that was a huge selling point for me.  I'm going to pick it up and see how it do.  What applications are you using it for?

Jigs (usually up to 1\2oz) and weighted 10" worms I fish deeper. I find it balances really well with my lews tournament mg and the grip is most  comfortable with a rounder low profile reel like that, at least to me. Makes holding the rod still and those subtle shakes and hops more comfortable.

No problem.  Deals are a huge selling point for me and how can you go wrong with free shipping and a free hat! I ordered two (shhh..don't tell my wife) on Saturday and had "buyers non-remorse" and picked up another one the next day and they were delivered by Tuesday very safely packaged.

Wow - after a few times out, I am extremely impressed with this stick.  Side-by-side, it is far more responsive than "value priced" E6X.  I needed a heavy power / fast action rod to fill a hole in the quiver, and this one was nails on a flipping jig / Paca Punch craw. Hooksets were sincere.  Here are a few from yesterday - not the biggest lot, but some pretty spots and some solid numbers:
