Broke the tip off one of my favourite casting rods yesterday.  Not sure how, justd sitting in the bottom of the boat, but the last six inches or so broke off. 

I built this rod about three years ago and like it a lot. I am thinking of trying top find a small diameter piece of graphite or fibreglass about 1/16 inch diamater or less, to fit tight inside the original pieces.  Is this feasible?  Is there anything else out there that I can try?  I'd really like to save this rod if I can. 

Any advice welcome.

Sections of a broken rod can be spliced or sleeved over. Thats probably the worst spot for a break, right in the action of the rod. The results would be marginal at best IMO. It will never be the same. What are the specs of the blank? You may be better off putting a tip on and re-purposing the rod. If you have more details I may be able to offer advice.

Not sure what the specs of the blank are.  Bought it from MudHole Tackle's store in Florida a few years back. 6' long, medium action with a soft tip. Threw crankbaits really well.

I was hoping I could find a suitable piece of solid graphite or glass about 1 mm dia. that would fit tight inside the two bores, and just epoxy them together.  But as you point out, it would never be the same. . .

I may just have to let it go.

Yep, let it go.  Strip the guides, buy a new blank and handle parts, and roll another rod.

Especially if you've dealt with Mudhole. They have their econo blanks and now have the MHX which are very affordable and high quality. Good luck.
