I have my materials for replacing my guide on my old rod. I now have a new question. I only bought one small package of rod finish. From doing some more reading I see that everybody mentions 2 coats of rod finish. Can I put on one thick coat and be OK or is there anyway to keep my finish once I mix it up? I really don't want to order another packet of finish just for this.

One coat should suffice in most cases. It depends on which finish you got. You can put it on thick enough to cover, just watch that it doesn't sag. Turn it often and you should be fine. You can contact me off-line if you need a hand.

Got a link to what packet you bought?  I would assume you could always mix half, and then the other half later.
