Buying a 1542 Tracker

Featured Replies

Hello Buying a 1542 Tracker to take my son out on the local reservoir. There we are not to have gas engines. What do you all recommend for trolling motors? Thinking a 55lb trust minn kota. Should I get 2 or will one be enough?

Thanks

Get the biggest one within your budget, the extra power will come in handy on windy days. And being able to move using a lower percentage of power will help make batteries last longer and not wear out the motor as fast.

I have a 1542 with a 15 HP 4 stroke on the back. Loaded down with two guys, battery, cooler, gas, gear, etc. I have a 12 volt 55# thrust on the bow that moves pretty well. Probably 3 or 4 MPH. If it's your only source of power, I'd get a 24 volt atleast 55# but lean more towards the biggest you can afford. I dealt I'd have a 24 volt in the back, and a small 30# thrust on the front.

Any idea what you are getting for mph with that 15 on the back?

Well, I'm 165 pounds, my partners are usually 180-210, with a full load of us and all the gear I mentioned prior, I get anywhere between 22.5-25 on a good day. It all depends on the load, wind, and water conditions.

I have a 1542 right now that I use as a reservoir boat and its all electric. I run 2-55s transom mounts for travel and a 55 bow mount for fishing. I also have decks in my boat and I'm running 4-6volt Golf cart batteries in series for my travel motors and a 12 volt for the bow mount. With me and a buddy plus everything else we travel about 4 to 5 mph with 2-55s, this is with a good amount of added weight. I can also say that the difference between 1-55 and 2-55s is only about 1 mph believe it or not, but the batteries last longer running two motors versus one.
