Depth Finder left in winter weather, is it ruined?

Featured Replies

I have a Humminbird PiranhaMax 160 portable fish finder that is maybe 6 years old. It worked great until I left it out in the cold last winter for a few months and it won't even turn on. I thought maybe the battery in my boat wasn't working but I figured that the harsh cold temperatures ruined it. It can get very cold up here in MN and I totally forgot about it.

Does anyone know if it can still be fixed? I'm guessing that the electronics got ruined. I'm thinking about finding a new depth finder but am debating on the brands between Garmin, Lowrance, and Humminbird. I've read some great articles on here but just don't know where to start. I have a budget of anything between $100-$300 right now. Any input would be great!

Check electrical connections (positive and ground) before anything else.  They can corrode when left hooked up for a while even if they don't look like it.
