Rick Clunn 0.5 substitute?

Featured Replies

Haven't fished or bought much gear in the last couple years. A favorite cold water bait was the BPS exclusives that more or less became the takahiro cranks. Looks like the .05's were discontinued. Loved these as they were small, but 3\8 ounce. You could bomb them on casting gear and cover alot of ground. I see they have them in the lucky strikes but they are half the weight. I'm a little naive as to what's out now, I know lucky craft makes alot of cranks available in alot of places. Does anyone know anything comparable? Want a small square bill but not 1/8 ounce. As an example of what I'm looking for, the 0.5's cast well with a Curado E7 spooled with 10-12lb hybrid on a Med Avid.

Check out "I Love Hard Baits" on Ebay.  They sale Lucky Craft exclusively and have a lot of stuff that isn't readily available.  They might still have 0.5's but also check out the Clutch, the Fat Mini and the 0.7 in the LC Series of cranks.  They might have something else that I'm not thinking about too.

The Megabass Griffin might be a bit smaller (not sure) but it is a superb bait. They are only a 1/4 oz though... The bill isn't square, but it isn't quite round either... They are worth the money. There is a Griffon 6CC that is 3/8oz, but I've never tried it. I don't think you can go wrong with Megabass though...

The Strike King KVD Square Bill has a 1.0 that might be worth trying too.

I've been using the Megabass Griffin for years with excellent results. Casts very well on a Med light rod and 50 size reel.  My fav is the crackle Chartreuse, lime and orange throat

Yes it's expensive!  Personally I've not noticed other fisherman using it here.

Many use a Bandit 100 in the swamps. Don't want to go too deep. And.....the Griffin will hang on lay downs more often.  So I've got to be precise in my casts.

Bomber Square A, the largest size weighs 3/8oz but it is small.
