what are yall using to produce fish here in VA

Read the fishing reports around your area before you head out and pay particular attention to the water temps, those will give you a good idea for rigs, this time of year blade baits, hair jigs, deep diving jerk baits, jig and pigs, drop shots, spinners and chatter baits, all could have a place in your fishery, find out what the fish are relating to, deep structure, shallow cover etc... If the water is stained then use baits that give off flash and tend to move a good bit of water, this time of year you have to experiment with all the fronts we get that are back to back to back and don't forget to pack a little patience in that tackle box too !

Not sure where you're fishing but smallies  nail Zoom Ultravibe Speed Craws on the Upper Potomac / Shenandoah / and James.

Poppers also treat me well early AM and PM.

If I'm not fishing rivers I do well with trick worms, t rigged senkos, and black/blue jigs (occaquan / cove).

Just assuming he meant what's producing in general, not necessarily late winter.

Hasnt started for me yet either.

I went out yesterday for the 1st time this year.  Water temp was reading at 55.4F when I got on the water around 1130am.  I didn't catch a fish until 250pm.  Started with my wacky rig and soon switch to a 5" senko texas rig.  I fished that the rest of the day.  Caught 2 fish, one 5 lber and one 3 lb 14 ozer with in 10 minutes and about 40-50 feet of one another in shallow water(1 ft or less, hint hint)...the spawn is about to start, maybe as early as next week.

Went out 3 times in the past week and caught about 10 fish each day. Most of my bass were caught on moving baits like a swim jig and a rattle trap including a 7.5lber and two 5lbers. My smaller bites were on shakey heads and drop shots. The big ones seemed to be hanging on the deeper grass edges in my ponds.

I can tell you what they are not biting on, and where they are not biting.  A big 0 for me this year!

This has been by far my best start to a year yet. The 7.5lber is the one in my profile pic and my new pb. Found some new ponds over winter and they have been paying off big time.

In my area (Tidewater) the big girls have really turned on the last couple of weeks.  Most of the better fish are coming on cranks, jerk baits and jigs.  I've seen several 9 lb.+ fish and quite a few over 8, all from public waterways.  The pre-spawn is on around these parts. 

I caught this dink Tuesday at Briery Creek Lake with my avatar presentation. Caught 5 others similar in size.

I have been doing well on the lakes around here with jerk baits fished relatively quickly and swim jigs.  I am thinking that this warm weather we are supposed to be getting will really turn them on by the end of the week.

And seeing that pic @Wayne P. may have just made my decision on where i need to head to next...

Somehow I don't think being short armed is going to influence our perspective...

I was catching them in less than 2' depths yesterday in downwind areas with a Chatterbait.

Dragging 5#-7# bass over laydowns wore my wrist out. Taking the day off today to rest up. Being old is a b%#&*

55 degree water in those areas.
