Lews TP-1 vs. Fenwick HMG spinning rod

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

So gander mountain is offering a $20 rebate on the Lew’s TP-1 Speed stick as well as a $10 off $100 coupon.  They are offering a $25 rebate with a free marmot jacket on the fenwick HMG as well as the 10 off 100.  So my question is for those who might have tried either rod… Should I get the TP-1 for $70 or the HMG for $65 with the jacket?  Are the microwave guides worth the extra 5 bucks or is the HMG superior and cheaper?  Let me know, Thanks!

This will be for a finesse setup, I was thinking the 6'9'' MLF (spinning) for either.

TP-1 is a fairly new rod back by a 1 year warranty where as a HMG has been around forever back by a lifetime warranty. That says a lot for a $5 difference IMO!

I would have to agree. I have a Fenwick HMG baitcaster and Fenwick HMX spinning rod and I love them. I am in the process of switching all my rods to Fenwick. Lews makes a quality product in my opinion I am actually also in the process of switching all my reels (baitcasters... Sticking with my Pflueger President for spinning) to Lews they make great reels can't say anything about there rods tho but I'm sure they are quality I just would go with the proven rod in this case. Also remember as it may not be a big difference but but a difference none the less but actions vary from company to company a Medium fast action Lews may differ from a Medium fast action Fenwick one at be a little stiffer then the other even tho they are the same power and action
