Live well help!!

Featured Replies

I just bought my first "real" bass boat about a month ago and I am having trouble figuring out the live well.  On my Jon boat I was able to fill the live well then turn a valve to begin recirculating the water... On this boat the live wells fill up fine however there is not another button to recirculate the water.... So I don't understand how to aerate the water... My boat is older.. 89 Avenger... Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

It may not have a recirc pump. If you look in the livewell do you see holes with screens covering them? If not, there should be an overflow. The only way to aerate the water is to add new water while the old water flows into the overflow

My nitro doesn't have a recirculation pump it's a 1990 basically I just keep pulling fresh water in. What I did though is buy a three way valve and and switches to enable recirculation. Basically I have a fill, and recirculation and a gravity drain. Just run it on a timer. Before the valves I just ran a plug in the drain. And reconfigured the valves so when I filled I put the plug in. Then switch the valve and remove the plug to recirculate.

You can make a good re circulation system by mounting a bilge pump inside your livewell. Just mount a spraybar on the top and use a short piece of 3/4" flex tube to connect it. Its really an easy install.

That's what I use I my 89 stratos,  before that I'd let it over flow out the over flow tube and re fill about every 30- 45 min.  Never lost a fish that way during tourneys.
