I'm going to Tampa the first week of April and I booked a 4 hour guided inshore saltwater fishing trip with Reel Animals.  My guide says they target snook, redfish, sea trout, cobia, and an occasional kingfish that time of year.  Evidently the tarpon aren't there until May and June which is kind of a bummer.  We're fishing out of a 25 foot Dorado.  To my understanding, tarpon fishing requires much heavier tackle simply because they not only get a lot bigger, but they fight a lot harder too.
