Hey guys, I had a question regarding line I bought from BPS Online. I didn't realize it at the time, but it is black, almost a rainbow-ish color.

It's 17b monofilament on a 7'0 Medium Heavy Fast Action Bait-casting setup that I plan to use for Lipless Cranks, Spinnerbaits, Chatter/ Rage baits, and topwater's like spooks and buzz baits. I know the topwater lures shouldn't be affected by line color, but what about the others? I have never seen black line before, or have ever seen anyone use it. I know once lures get a certain depth line pretty much turns black or disappears anyways but is this going to be an issue? I  am planning on fishing Reservoirs, small lakes, and big lakes. Maybe some ponds.

Funny you mention this.  I saw something about Berkley Black Velvet on another site that caught my eye, but then I could not find anyone that sold it here in the US.

I don't think fish seeing line is the operative issue in the problem of having a lure tethered. Fluorocarbon, for instance, fishes well for other reasons than that.

I have purposely dyed dark lines in the past to knock down line flash that can spook shallow fish. Otherwise, I don't think it's a concern. I'll say this, dark lines can be harder for YOU to see, which can be a disadvantage at times.

I fished for Muskie with black line for years and caught plenty of bass while doing so.  Would I use it for bass fishing? Not under most conditions. 

When fishing clear water I use a black sharpie and color the last 3 or 4 feet of my line. Doing so makes it almost invisible in the water. I also used to fish with Berkeley Fire Line which is black. Its hard to see at times but sure caught a lot of fish.

 

Thanks guys I figured. I just looked in my email confirmation and it was Sufix Siege 17b Monofilament line. Just didn't notice it was black when I ordered but nonetheless I won't worry about it. It's not like i'll need to line watch with the lures I plan on using with it anyways. I appreciate it guys!

First review had me rolling: " I just put the 17lb on my Curado and its like casting an extension cord. It's the coolest looking line I've seen, but leave 17lb on the shelf unless you are fishing for Jaws or weed eating! "
