Central Florida Tough Fishing

Featured Replies

Fishing has been tough of late. Been going to a few of the lakes around the area, and like expected, they have been tough fishing. Conditions have been weird, bass are hunkered down. Decided to give some local ponds a try and same situation. Pretty tough fishing. Managed to hook up with a nice 4lber and then 2 minutes later my buddy hooked up with another 4lber. Other than that, a few dinks. Heading to Okeechobee in 2 weeks. I'm hoping this warm weather they're supposed to have, sticks and warms up the water a bunch. Should make the fishing heat up as well. Hope all ya'll had a good weekend and did better than we did. Out again this weekend! Tight lines boys

I had a tough day on Saturday until the late afternoon, then it seemed like fish turned on and were in areas that we covered in the morning willing to strike almost anything..Lasted about an hour and stopped...Ponds have been hit or miss based on weather and unpredictable this year, but if you can find a nice sunny flat or bank with hard bottom and clear water, it seems those ponds are easier to fish especially this time of year....

I have also gotten into light line and small baits and it is not only fun but some days it works really well and on Saturday the 4" Curly tail worm on a split shot saved the day for me and my buddy did well on a small spinnerbait, but we put the braid down and went with 6lb Triple Fish camo line and that seems to work well in the tanic water we have here in Florida...If it stays warm another day, I bet it turns on, it was on a week ago...been like that now 3 different times already, frustrating but that is just how it is...I just like trying new ponds and lakes, central florida has so many it would take a lifetime to fish them all. I am amazed how good some of the public parks are and they are empty except for guys fishing for Catfish mostly...

What is the weather like down there? Are you having cold fronts or just colder temps than normal? Up here in the Northeastern US we are having alot warmer temps than usual. I already got my rod restrung and am ready to start fishing for smallmouths.

I hear ya . I'm on vacation down here and the bite is not as good as  the last few times here. I'll try to start a post on my catches  when I get a chance.

The weather has been a little bit cooler then usual but the major thing effecting the waters and tough fishing is the amount of rain we've gotten. Spreads fish into areas normally not reachable when water levels are normal.

Everglades water too high and bass still widely scattered out in the inaccessible prairies. They'll eventually be concentrated in the fish-able canals when water levels subside. Okeechobee has been tough with high water levels and frequent small cold fronts. Was on Lake O on Saturday and some boats had only two fish all day. A small club tournament was won with less than ten pounds. And it was pretty darn cold in the morning -- low 50's.

Things will improve -- soon. Going back to O in 2 weeks to hassle some big mamas -- I hope!

Ill be heading to Lake O on the 19 and 20. Hopefully with the warming air temps, and I mean warming (constant mid to high 80's) until the trip, hopefully the water will see some drastic changes and the fish will become more active. We can only hope! Have a good trip when you go @hawgenvy. Best of luck to you!

Thanks! Catch some good ones.
