Kayak fishfinder helix5 vs 197c

Featured Replies

Getting ready to setup my new kayak, looking at FF's.

I am looking at the hummingbird helix5DI and the pirahnamaxx 197c. I understand the differences what i would like to know would i benefit from the 5DI over the 197 with a kayak?

Some of the resovoirs around here are up to 160' deep. I will be running rivers, lakes and the resovoirs from 2-160' deep.

So will i benefit with the helix 5DI?  Thanks for any insight.

i fish from a yak too, have a lowrance 4x HDI.  not top of the line by any means, but it works.  that said, i barely if ever use the DI but rather stick with the sonar.  if i could do it over again, i'd buy one with GPS so that i could drop some waypoints, but wouldn't care about the DI one bit.

The imaging technology will give you a picture-like image of what is below IF operated properly.

This is a combo view of a brush/log pile with 2D sonar and Humminbird Down Imaging from a SI unit:

Side Imaging is much more useful, but any Imaging is better than no Imaging.

If your going to get the Helix 5 , save up and get the SI/GPS unit you have everything you'll need  Sonar/Di /SI/and GPS  ,It's lightweight and can be set up portable ....here's a pic of how I use it ..
