Jig bite ?

Featured Replies

When fishing with a jig what s the right time to set the hook? Do you set it when you feel a tap or do you let the bass get the jig in it's mouth and start to swim away?

With a jig (and plastics), the moment I feel anything different (or see line move in different direction), I drop the tip of the rod (taking up slack) and set the hook!

With plastics (not often jigs), if you let them swim off, you stand the chance of them swallowing the hook or spitting it out ;).

Man, when you type no better than I do, it sure takes a lot longer to type it than do it :)...

Set the hook right away because the jig is mainly metal, and the fish will spit it out alot faster than a worm.

I've found that the bass are hitting my jigs pretty hard. This is the first year that I've had any success, it's almost like a hit on a crankbait for me.I've been hopping the jigs on the bottom...... Bounce, bounce, bounce, BAM set the hook!  ;)

Feel a bump or see the line move, set the hook. If you snooze you lose. JMHO

If at any time you feel a noticeable tap, tug, line tighten, heaviness, or see line movement; Without hesitation drop the rod, reel the slack, and set the hook.
