Lake Chautauqua Recommendations

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Some hockey buddies and I plan a fishing trip every June.  This year we are trying our luck at Lake Chautauqua in NY near the Erie, PA border (we let the guy from Buffalo plan this year).  Most of the guys going are Walleye/Trolling guys (because you can spend most of the time with a 'soda' in your hand), but my first love is Bass Fishing.

I'll be renting boats from the cabins we're staying in on the Northern half of the lake, so the only Nav tools at my disposal will be fishing apps on my phone.  One or two of us usually break away for a morning/evening or two to bass fish.  Does anyone with any experience on the lake have any smallmouth/largemouth hot spots they recommend in early June?  I have a 50lb tackle bag dedicated solely to bass fishing, so I've got my bases covered on gear.  Just looking for some advice on spots to try as I won't have much ability to track underwater structure outside phone apps and perhaps a map at a bait shop.

Thanks!

Chautauqua is a dock lake.. Lots and lots of docks. Flip the docks and you will be rewarded with both smallmouth and largemouth!

Have a tournament there myself the last weekend of July.

Skip senkos under the docks, and let them sink near the posts, can't help but catch nice fishing doing this. If there is a boat docked, try and get it between the dock and the boat. If you want to fish faster, throw squarebills near the docks, and try to smack as many of the posts as possible.
