ST Croix Avid AVC710HMF

Featured Replies

Does any1 have this rod and if you do, what do you use it for??

Just purchased a ST Croix Avid AVC710HMF -  7' 10" Heavy Mod. Fast Telescopic 14 - 30lb 1/2 - 2 oz at a swap meet for 100 bucks. I currently have it paired with a Calcutta 200D spooled with 50lb PP.

I already have a dedicated flipping/Punching rod (IMX 954C FPR)

and a dedicated Pitching rod (Champion 734C).  Thinking that I could use this for frogs, big cranks, big spinnerbaits, and even Pike/Musky applications.

Thoughts?

It's a  flat out broom stick. I used to fish a lot of St Croix rods..........this was one of them. I HATED every single H powered rod I ever bought of their's................you'd think I would have learned after one, but no, I had to buy several.

Sounds like a rod for big braid and big baits. Why not have a 2nd flip/punch setup with a different bait tied on from your IMX?

I have this rod.  It's got it's purpose and it's like the long arm of a crane!  When you need to use big wire hooks and heavy weights on heavy line, in the heaviest crap imaginable, this rod is an option.  I could not even consider casting ANYTHING with this beast.  Flip it or maybe pitch it very short distance.

Great Musky rod fer large cranks, don't know why anyone would buy one fer Bass????  Better rods fer about any situation I can think of one using this rod for.
