How far apart to mount transducers

Featured Replies

I'm just bought a Helix 10 si gps and a Helix 7 si gps. I'm still trying to figure out if I want to mount the transducer for the 7 which will be at the bow on the trolling motor or have them both on the back. I called Humminbird today to find out how far apart tgey have to be away from each other and they told me as far as possible but wouldn't give me a minimum    distance. I have no idea what this means. If I mount one on the left side of the motor and one on the right is that far enough away?

Any units broadcasting on the same frequency will cross-talk when their sonar pulses overlap. 200 kHz 2D sonar has the smallest coverage for a typical unit. Same boat or different boats.

SI will cross talk hundreds of feet apart since those sonar pulses go to the sides. I can tell if a boat in the area has the side looking sonar technology by the way it affects my units.

It makes more sense to have the bow unit's transducer at the bow so the sonar data is where the display is, not a boat length away.

Have you exchanged the SI transducer that comes with the Helix 7 SI GPS for the same one that comes with the Helix 10 SI GPS????

I called today to exchange it and they told me they don't recommend it and that I won't notice any difference. Should I still do it?

You talked to an uninformed person.

The HDSI transducer is 2" longer, has longer SI crystals which produce a thinner SI pulse. That results in sharper images= physical fact.
