Trip to FL next Week- Itinerary Tips and Opinions Please

Featured Replies

Hi All-

We are coming in next Wednesday and here are our travel plans. Any advice on routes, restaurants, or general information we should be aware of would be appreciated.

Land at RSW and head to Clewiston to fish on Okeechobee for 3 days.

Next Saturday, we plan to head to Hollywood Florida for two nights to be tourist and also night fish Tarpon.

On Monday the 2nd, we will be driving from Hollywood, FL to RSW for noon flights.

We're curious on traffic, road construction or things we should be aware of. We plan to check out the Hard Rock casino and Margaretville while in Hollywood. Our night fish is the night before we come home, so we're a little nervous about the route back to the airport and when we should get going in the AM.

Thanks!

Use the turnpike when possible, the tolls are worth the improved traffic flow

Nice, how much are the tolls typically?  Which road is the turnpike?  Thanks!

From clewston to hard rock, take 27 south to 595 east to 441 south.  Great roads and the quickest way.

Sounds like you are going to have a great time!  What type of food are you looking for, also where are you staying in Clewiston?  Who are your guides?

We're staying at Roland Martin's and Roger Gonzalez will be our guide on Big -O and using JP Outfitters for the fishing in Hollywood, FL.

I always like to eat the local cuisine when traveling and being from Minnesota, its rare to get great fresh fish (except for Walleye).

If you get to the north end of the lake there is a restaurant in Okeechobee named Lightseys. They have all you can eat local catfish that is great. All of their food is good but the catfish is great. May be to far to drive from Roland Martin's place, but imo worth the time.

I know there is a good Cuban restaurant, and a good southern barbecue in Clewiston.  Many times I have eaten at Lightsey's in Okeechobee, just north of the river.  I agree with the post above, the catfish is excellent.
