Having problems with this equipment and was wondering if anyone else has problems with it....or like it.  

What it does is, reads the bottom at 3ft then all of a sudden it will read 300ft...and only trolled along the shore line the whole time.

What would cause this?

Did it do it just once Or does it do it all the time?

All the time...we checked the wiring too....nothing wrong there.  It also happens with the front one too...so sometimes we wont even use it for about 20 minutes at a time...then it will work fine for a while.

I have two x51 on my Triton 170mag. I havent had any trouble with the one on the console but the one on the front of the boat sometimes will not register the depth unless I turn it off and on 2 or 3 times. This always seems to happen in water 3' or less. Instead of reading the depth it just blinks until I turn it off and back on. Again its only on the one with the transdicer on the trolling motor. the other one always works good. Makes me wonder if its some kind of interference.  

I have a Garmin on the trolling motor that will do the same thing in real shallow water. I have to take it out of the auto mode & set it up for shallow water. Your manual should explain why & how to do it.

My X51 did the same thing.  

Mine isn't the x-51  but it did something like that when I pinched the transducer cable. I replaced the transducer and  that pretty much solved the problem unless I get into somewhere in real shallow water or possibly bump it or get into real thick grass and it throws it off like that for a little while than returns to normal and I get back in cleaner water.  I think once the beam is broken it confuses it for a while.
