would st croix avid x be a good worm rod?

Featured Replies

looking for a good worm rod to go with my 13 casting 7:3:1 reel, avid x doesn't sell around a 3/16 weight for casting, would it still perform as well?  The big weights usually do not suit me.

It depends on the model but there are good jig and worm models in that line. The 6'8" Medium power, extra fast action and the 7' medium power, fast action, if you fish a T-rigged worm with a 3/16oz weight then you'll be well within the 1/4oz to 5/8oz range. I have a spinning rod in the Avid X line, I think you get a great rod for the price, I really like what they did, much more responsive than the regular Avid series.

thank you I will get the medium power fast action taper

St Croix Avid X are amazing rods, Im sure you'll be happy, but 3/16oz is pretty light and might be hard to cast. 3/16 is lighter than 1/4 which is their lightest rated, but Im sure that 7' medium fast would be able to cast it (3/16 is only 1/16th lighter than 1/4 so its pretty dang close). Just let off spool tension and turn up the breaks. You won't get super distance but it is what it is with light weights and casting rods

well unless he's casting without a hook or plastic, then I think he'll be well over 1/4oz

I don't I like how much it plops when it falls into the water, a giant weight, with a 6 3/4" trick worm, looks a little off, most of the time, also with rage craws
