Inshore gulf fishing

Featured Replies

I'm heading to Rockport, TX next week hopefully to stock up trout and reds. My question is what rods reels line should I bring? My first thought is to take my MH XFast casting rod with a chronarch 200e7 with 15# fluoro and a medium fast spinning rod with a 2500 a stradic and 20# braid with leader. Any reason these two setups won't cover me? Any other rods I should consider?

those should work just right, unless you hook up with the occasional bull red. But that just makes it more fun. Good luck!

You'll be fine!

I fish southwest Louisiana for specks & reds with my bass tackle

Awesome. Thanks for the confirmation. Planning on picking up some spoons and plastics when I get there.

I used to fish the coast a lot both Texas and Florida. I always use a 3000 series spinning reel on a medium or medium light power fast action rod and 10 lb power pro. This set up has landed redfish up to 33 inches without an issue. I really don't see the need for a medium heavy power rod.
