Houston spots?

Featured Replies

I will be relocating to Houston Tx.  For the next couple of months I will only be able to shore fish until I can get my kayak there with me.  Sure would appreciate it if anyone knew of any spots to fish from shore and launch a kayak as well.  Thanks for everything!

I will be living around Hobby but I can drive anywhere within an hour drive or so.  Like I said for the first month or so it will be strickly bank fishing until I can get my kayak there.  Thanks.

George Bush park ponds seem ok.  Is shore/kayak fishing allowed here?  Tried to look it up and it looks like shore fishing is ok so I guess it's the kayak thing I'm wondering about.

I grew up down there and while that area does not have the type bass fishing opportunities that deep east Texas does where I live now there are definitely plenty of places to fish!

Sheldon lake has pretty decent bass fishing. Definitely the potential for a really big fish in there. Only thing to watch for is there are lots of big alligators and the launch area is kind of sketchy. It used to be pretty bad but they put up cameras and the sheriff office upped there patrols. Last I heard it had gotten better. Sheldon is a shallow weedy reservoir with tons of vegetation. I've fished there from the bank and out of a canoe and never had issues with gators or ppl.

Lake Houston does have bass as well. It's not really known for bass fishing but it can be good at times. Luces bayou on the upper end of the lake typically has the clearest water and is the most natural with woods and vegetation along the banks. Much of the rest of the lake is bulkheaded and the main structure is docks along the shoreline and underwater structure such as humps, points and an old road bed that runs across by the lake patrol HQ. There are a couple bridges going across the lake too.

Highlands reservoir is supposed to have decent bass but I never tried it.

Armand Bayou is brackish water and they have bass it's a really nice place to take a kayak.

Dont overlook drainages, retention ponds and bayous around town that hold water I've heard of ppl catching some fish out of those. Not necessarily great size but good numbers of fish up to 3-4 lbs. just park, walk up and fish.

Hope this helps ya out some.

Really appreciate it.  I am hoping to go looking around next week.  Weather this week is awful!
