Sports Chalet is going out of business and everything is 20% off. The fishing section is almost completely cleaned out already. But the location by me has a couple Phenix M1 Inshore models that look and feel extremely nice.

I was thinking of picking up the 7'11 ML fast model for swimbaits in 1.5-3oz and heavy swim jigs.

Its rated for 1-3oz and feels like the tip is more like a moderate fast.

They also have the 7'3" MH ex fast rated for 2-6oz but being ex fast I think its too stiff for treble hook lures

Anyway Im wondering if it would be unwise to let this deal slip by (its not a super deal but 20% is still 20%. Its normally $189)

Is ML right for swim jigs and swimbaits?? That doesn't seem right. Maybe you meant MH?

I asked about the 9'0" Heavy M1 Inshore rod as as swimbait rod on the swimbaitunderground forums and a couple of guys said they use the 8'2" Heavy for throwing Deps 250s with no problems.  The M1 itself is a great blank (I believe this is the blank that Ben at Low Down Customs uses for all of his swimbait rod builds) so don't worry about the rod, it's just a matter of getting the one with the right action for what you want to throw on it.

I didn't bother to check out the specs, but you have to remember it is a saltwater rod.....not a bass rod.  My ML Redbone has the same rating as several of my MH bass rods.

Its an inshore/ocean rod so a ML in that series would be like a MH or even a heavy in a normal bass rod.

The MH/extra fast model was very stiff..too stiff for swimming baits.

I went ahead and bought the 7'11 ML fast model, I couldn't resist, its so dang nice looking/feeling. I can tell this thing is going to fling 2-4oz baits a mile.

good choice I own the same rod and love it great for swimbaits and heavy jigs even some frogs!

Congrats on the new rod.  Out to be able to launch lures into the stratosphere.

LDC uses the black diamond & black diamond hybrid blanks 

Thanks for clarifying/correcting, I could have sworn I read he used the M1 somewhere!
