My stuff for the Neko rig is starting to show up in the mail. My question is, is this a light line finesse technique only or can you use it on a casting rod with 12 pound line? Thanks.

if you size up your hooks and bait, you need to size up your line. if you are throwing the small stuff, 12lb isnt good

My friend, it's a rig, you can fish whatever you want with whatever you want, in my neck of the woods you ain't going to go too far with Mickey Mouse gear when you got the chance of hooking a 10+ lber between tough mesquite trees. I "finesse" 1/2 oz shakeyheads with heavy rods, 15 - 17 lb test nylon or copoly and Brush Hogs as bait.

I would think it would be better to throw it on soinning gear! You could with 12 lb. line on a baitcaster buy why unless like Raul said. I fish it on spinning gear!

Bigger baits and weights= Heavier line and heavier rod.  I have done it and it's worked. But in general it is a more finesse technique

I personally would use spinning gear with lighter line unless there is heavier cover around. Same outfit you would throw a wacky senko on. 

You'll be fine, just adjust your drag to a point where your hook won't bend out.

What worms are you going to use? A very good worm for the Niko rig is the nikko baits bass worm.

Who said worms ? my man is my padawan and we fish manly macho baits ( we got hair on the chest n´chew tobakee ) , he gonna Neko rig these:

Rage Lobsters and Zoom Brush Hogs, that´s what we machos use to fish.

I got some Havoc bottom hoppers, Netbait T-mac, and Reins Bubbling shakers. But I also was gonna give the Rage Tail craws a shot. It seems like it would work good in theory.

Oh yah I have some Yamamoto Flappin Hogs. I thought those might work too.

^^This^^ - Bigger Baits + Larger Hooks + Heavier Weights = Heavier equipment and line . No reason why a 12" Bull Worm with a 3/8th oz. weight and a 2/0 octopus hook wouldn't work .

I think GYBC is overpriced, but their California Roll is an extremely good Neko rig bait.
