Fishing a Blueback Herring Lake

Recommended Posts

The reservoir that I fish in is usually crystal clear and it is a blueback herring lake. For those who do not know what that means, it means that the fishing can be very tough because the main forage is herring. Even the pros during the Bassmaster Classic in 2008 and 2015 struggled, except for local Casey Ashley. Ok so enough preface, the main reason that I am posting this thread is that I really want to get into jig fishing. The baits that usually work for me are crank baits, spinnerbaits, senkos, and flukes in clear water. And then chatterbaits  excel in muddy water. I fished a swim jig for a little bit and caught one striper and a bass. But in my mind I don't consider that to be jig fishing. What kind of head styles/colors/weights would you all recommend for this type of situation keeping clear water and herring in your mind. (I have had fish cough up crawfish before). Thanks.
