Small mouth in trout pond

Recommended Posts

Ok so my situation is that there's a small state park near me with 5 different ponds to fish in. In one of the ponds it is stocked seasonally with some rainbow trout for people to fish for. Talking to fellow fisherman there they said there's huge smallies in the pond like 5-6+ pounders which is huge especially because that's the only lake near the metro that I know has small mouth in it. I also talked to the game warden there to make sure people weren't telling me fishing tales and he said there were some big ones in there, he also said that he wouldn't be surprised if the next state record comes out of there and that is verbatim. My question is if I were to buy a rainbow trout Huddleston and fish that around would I be able to catch that big one or would that not affect them because they are surrounded by rainbows all the time?

could work, but consider that when lakes are stocked with trout they stock alot of fingerlings to establish a possible base for natural reproduction,...at least they do that out here, ask that warden if fingerlings are stocked as well

YES it will I fish big swimbaits in Erie as they are always eating trout that come out of the creeks.

If this is 2 Rivers, I've never caught any smaller over 2 lbs and only 3 total at that.

You still need to buy a trout tag to even fish there and I've caught mine on jerk baits.  I'd say to use larger, "normal", smallie baits to select for those predators and be prepared to haul a lot of water.
