Best hand controlled trolling motor?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to replace my 20 year old  trolling motor which finally died this spring.I'm partial towards Minn Kota motors and I'm looking at the Minn Kota 55AT H.Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, B.D.

I would go with minn kota anyday, i have an all-terrain motor and it is awesome. i have foot controlled but the hand controlled is just as good. i would highly recommend this motor.

I have a 50# Minn Kota foot controlled, right now. If I had to replace it tomorow, I would still go Minn Kota but hand controlled/ w extention or a remote PD. ( I think they have remote)

I have had both a Motorguide & now own a Minn Kota.  They were on 2 different boats, both Rangers.  Both Boats were rigged with the stop-start button on each side of the casting deck. When I sold the Ranger with the Motorguide it was working fine, and as far as I know it still is. So that would make it 19 years old. I have had the Minn Kota since January 2002. I have never had trouble with either one & they both did a good job. Just make sure you get one with enough thrust to move your boat around in a strong wind or strong current. It's much better to have to much thrust than not enough. I like for my trolling motor to put my boat on a plane.

i have a 50# minn kota. i beat the hell out of it and it works great. plenty of power, it's all i use as i don't have an outboard. great motor.

i don't know about the new motor guides, but i used one years ago on a rental boat and you set the speed with a dial and you had to hold a button down to go. they might not be like that now. i like the twist, i often turn it on low while i fish just like a foot control, you just reach up and push it in the right direction every once in a while.
