Inflatable boat

Recommended Posts

Being that I don't have the resources to buy a real bass boat, and the fact that I fish small county lakes, I am thinking about getting an inflatable boat that has a motor mount on it.  I plan on getting a pretty decent boat and putting a sheet of plywood in the bottom to give it more stability and to be able to stand up or put a chair down.  Initially i am going to be restricted to using oars to get around but eventually, I will get a small trolling motor.

Has anyone else done something like this or am I the only one who can't afford a boat who wants to get to better fishing spots?

I have an inflatable boat, I used it a lot when I didn 't have the jonboat . What kind of inflatable you have in mind ? just to know if you can add the plywood or not, if you can add the motor mount or not, also you will need a weedguard for the motor ( it looks like a basket ) because the prop can tear down the boat.

I was thinking of going the way you are talking about.  Instead I went with a pontoon style kick boat.  The amount of tweaking you can do to it is infinite.  I am in the process of putting a floor in mine so I can stand up, even though I have already raised the seat and sit pretty high above the water.  A friend put a floor in his and it is very stable.  I also have already added electronics and a big trolling motor to mine.

There are numerous good products, and numerous web sites to give you some ideas.  If you have any questions, I'll help all I can.

Good luck.

I was in the same "boat" and looked at alot of  options, canoe, bass buster and inflatable.  Decided on a nice used zodiac, about 9'6" and fits 2 very well.  Also like the fact that its weight rating is almost a 1000lbs.  Added a 46 lbs thrust minnkota and really like the set up.

Mine has the inflatable floor, which works very well, very easy, stable and comfortable to stand in.

There are alot of brands out there at various prices, so do your homework.  I've been very pleased with the set up.

For ahundred bucks you can find you a 12-14 ft Jon boat. For another couple a hundred get you nice transome mount TM...and your in business. You can add things like seats, floor, aused trailer for next to nothing. As time goes by ,get you a small used outboard. Before you know it ,you got yourself a rig that will go anywhere. That's how I started out.Or you can stick with your original idea. There's lots of options.

I have thought about a used jon boat or something, but I am extremely limited on storage space plus I have no way to transport a boat, no hitch my car wouldn't like me much to haul around a boat.

I figure with the inflatable, I can leave it all in my trunk and have it pretty much when i want it, without it taking up much space.

 ...consider a square- back canoe.

It stores great beside the house, goes up on the car roof easy enough, and a trolling motor will get you anywhere, minimum a pair of oars. Over time you can place a gas motor on the back and use a side- mount for your trolling motor. Easy fishin' at its finest...

I think they are kind of high priced (I will have to see if I still have the price quote) but have you checked out the Port-a-boat?  They fold up long ways and can be carried under one arm, or the picture on the web site shows one being carried that way.  I guess the set up and take down is just minutes.  You can mount a small electric or gas motor on them or use oar locks.  They can be carried on top of a car and strored on wall hooks.  If space is a bigger issue than price, they might be worth a look.  I was checking into them to carry on a horse trailer if my wife goes rideing in the mountains, and since I can no longer ride.  I realy didn't have much room for a boat and weight was anouther big factor.  I was supposed to have seen one at a boat show, but couldn't make it.  So I can't say what they are like in real life.
