Help! Newbie needs to pick a Battery Charger

Featured Replies

Rookie boat owner (pick up this evening).  I would like to purchase a battery charger (onboard) to install.  Locally I seem to be limited to ProMariner, Minkota and Guest as the brands.  Is one any better than the other?

Thanks for any help!

ProMariner hands down. If you understand how it works and how the others work, there's no comparison. It's smaller, lighter charges twice as fast than DualPro, Guest or just about any other brand. There are a couple as good/better but nothing in the price range you can get the PM for.

ProMariner also makes the BPS line but not in the larger size chargers. If one of those little ones is what you had in mind, might want to look at the BPS.

If you have the $300+ get the Pro Tourney 300. I bought my third PT 300 in Feb, BPS was wanting about $350, I offered a local dealer $320+tax to order me one, saved a $30 plus the shipping.

I've stopped using on board chargers. I can't keep one working for more than a year. I just use the old fashion portable type.  Besides that give me more space for stuff

Thanks for the help.  I ended up with a promariner.  Seems to work great!

The onbaord charger on my Tracker died so I use a portable marine charger that does a great job.

At the Classic in Pittsburgh I spoke with the Dual Pro Charger representative and was very impressed with their products.

You may want to consider installing a charger with two banks, one for the trolling motor and a second for the cranking battery.

You can obtain more information about the Dual Pro Chargers at...

www.dualpro.com

Denny Brauer is hawking these battery chargers so they can't be but so bad!!!!

I plan to replace the onboard charger on my Tracker 185 with another one this fall and I may go with the Dual Pro Charger Pro SE or Dual Pro SE or maybe the Dual Pro XL.

Let us know what you did.
