Two Fish Finders

Recommended Posts

Hap_Hazard,

Are you installing it on a bass boat for bass fishing or are you trolling?

If it's for bass fishing install it on the trolling motor

You'll be watching whats under the front of your boat instead of whats behind it.

I use the dash mount for running down the lake and for looking for structure.

Once I have found the structure I'm looking for I put down the trolling motor and use the front locator to stay in contact with the structure.

If it's for trolling then the back of the boat would be fine.

Thanks for the reply. I use the boat for bass fishing and trolling for walleye.  I hadn't decided whether to put it on the trolling motor or transom.  I will locate the display in the bow. I thought the transom might cause more problems because it would be right next to the other transducer. So, you are saying there should be no problem with either location?

Hap_Hazard,

I'm in way an expert on locators!!

Most of the knowledge that I have has came from the Lowrance web site.

You need to check out the website from the Mnfg

of the locator that you are planning on installing.

Both of mine are Lowrance I have an X48 in the dash with a through the hull transducer and an X75 on the bow with the transducer mounted on the trolling motor, no interference.

Not sure about interference if they were both mounted on the transom

Not sure about using the same transducer for both locators.

One thing is that if you mount the transducer on the transom and the locator on the bow you'll be looking at whats behind the boat instead of whats under the front of the boat.

If the transducers are oth the same frequency, they will interfere with one another. If you are fishing deeper water, they will intfere with one another even one opposite ends of the boat. Not as bad as if they are side by side, but it can happen.

Yes some mfg make a switch that will allow you to run two LCDs of of one transducer, and also to two run transducers off of one LCD. I think they run around $90-100 for the switch plus the unit or transducer. Every thing has to be the same mfg and model fro the 2:1 to work.

Hap

The signal you are getting from your transom transducer is probably some 4 to 7 feet behind the boat if you are making headway

Put your second tranducer on the trolling motor. You are a lot better off knowing whats right below you when casting. Why bother with the switch. Your second sounder will come with a transducer.

They might interfere with each other depending on boat size.  My last boat had a transducer off the transom and one on the TM. The boat was a bit over 17' and I could not run them at the same time.

My current boat is a bit under 19' with a TM transducer and a thruhull right at the transom and I can run both at the same time without any problems. Both sounders are the same frequency.

I'm going through the same problem too.

I have a 12 footer with a Humminbird LCR 400 ID, which is mounted on the transom.  I'm planning on getting another finder, so I can put it on the trolling motor.   I mainly fish for bass, eyes, crappies, and cats.  I also don't troll much with this boat.

Any advice as to what would be the best set up for my situation?!  Thanks!!
