Yum Toads

So thanks to Bassresource, I've had to buy more soft plastice...this time, toads.

The Zooms are nice, but I bought a few bags of Yum as well.  What am I missing with these things?  The Zoom toad legs kick with no problem.  The Yum don't see to do anything.  I've tried varying my retrieve...

Am I missing something, or is the action supposed to be completely different than the Zoom?

The action is definitely different between the zoom horny toads and yum buzz frogs.  As a result you'll hear a lot of guys say they don't like the yum frogs.  BUT in my experience the yum frogs excel UNDER the water.  I like to hop them along the bottom in thick weeds.  Let sink to the bottom, let it sit for a second, pop it off the bottom a few feet, let it glide back down to the bottom, repeat.  When they're under water the legs kick really good.  Give it a try, you might like it!

Its funny because my main tournament partner loves the Zoom Horny Toads because of their action and I love the Yum version because of theirs.  We both use them a lot, but both fish them really different ways.  I bought a couple different brands too and they are best used a little differently.  I look at the legs first when buying different brands, some swim/jerk better and some buzz/sputter better.  They all seem to catch fish though.

Both of those baits are a lot more versatile than most people think.  Like FatBoy said you can fish them under the water.   I like to swim mine to make it look like a bluegill, crappie, or shad (depending on which color I am using).  You can also buzz them across the surface like a buzzbait or even carolina rig them.  I've also had good results with them as a jig trailer.

I have actually had more success doing this than buzzing them across the top of the water.

Peg a light weight to the nose and let it sink around structure....it will look like it swimming for the bottom and fish will kill it..Also works skimmed across certain types of vegatation..Takes a good size fish to get a good hook set like this but it gives a different look....

Stanley ribbits and gambler cane toads are much better as far as the desired action...

I have yet to see where anyone has won a large tournament on a Yum Buzzfrog...the guys sponsored by Yum dont even lie about using them :-?....
