Dobyns Jerkbait rod

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm trying to step up my jerkbait game this fall and winter and I am looking at a few rods. The 684 and 685 CB dobyns champion, which seem to be made for Jerkbaits although I've heard they are a bit too whippy, and the 682. This is not a cranking rod so it would be a bit faster. Have any of you used these rods? Any advice would help. Thanks.

what size/weight jerkbaits you talking about?  i'm not going to be a ton of help because i don't fish them a lot, but that'll help get you some good answers.  although i had a 682C champion that was very good for mid sized jerkbaits and topwater.

I have the 684CB Champion. I bought it for jerkbaits originally. It's now used for small squarebills. It is much too whippy for jerkbaits. Either get something with a fast action, or maybe try the 685CB.

I'll mainly be using it for vision 110s, shadow rap deeps, and some duo realis 100-110

Yeah I was thinking of trying the 685 although that could be a bit too much rod which is why I was considering the 682

with those baits, i'd think the 685cb would be the stick.  that 682c might work, but it also might put it at the top of the limit with those baits.  i had a 704cb that was good for lighter baits, but like fishballer said almost felt too whippy on those larger sized baits.  i'd imagine the 685 would almost be the "goldilocks" rod.
