I have a 2001 225 Optimax that has been giveing me alot of trouble this year and I have a friend that has a  99 300 promax with less than 80 hrs. Knowing that my motor has proplems he wants to trade motors with me. I have fished out of his boat several times and know his boat motor runs perfect (I also know the fuel mileage sucks), do you think this would be a good trade or not.??

Why would he be willing to trade for less power and potential problems? Maybe, just maybe, he knows he can remedy the probs with your current motor, wind up with a newer motor (perhaps with some factory warranty remaining,) and save gas.

I'd check to see if there's warranty remaining on your motor or find a skilled mechanic to see if it can be brought up to spec.

Besides, is YOUR hull rated for a 300?

Yes my boat is rated for 300hp, and you just have to know my friend, (he still has the first penny he ever found) he wants my motor strictly for the fuel milage, and thinks he can work through the problems.. No my motor has no warrenty left, and its not that my motor is not running, its just haveing alot of problems. it seems like every time I go out something else goes out on it. I have spent almost $2000.00 on it already just this sumer (coils, map sensor, etc.) and now it is in the shop because it sucked up a reed, I have never even heard of a optimax sucking up a reed. :-X :-X :-X

My guess is you wind up with a gas-guzzling motor, and one less friend......
