As the hands have gotten older, I have had to look for new ways to tie knots for joining two lines as well as tying on terminal tackle.  I found a tool that seems to work very well tying the nail knot.  I have been using the nail knot for terminal tackle and a nail knot to nail knot for joining the leader to the main line.   I started using it a few weeks ago when I took a fishing trip for small mouth.  The largest fish caught was around 31/2 lbs. So far, it has worked very well, with no break offs, but since I haven't seen it mentioned in bass fishing forums, I am wondering if I should be using it.   Any inputs would be greatly appreciated both on the use of the nail knot or any other tools/aids to help these old hands tie reliable knots.  Thanks

it is my preferred knot for joining lines.  I use it fly fishing for making leaders and the few times i use a leader i use it as well.  If you are looking to make it easierr to tie, they make nail knot tools that make it a breeze to tie.

If it's working for you, then don't doubt using it.  Doesn't matter what others think.

The double uni is a great line to line knot, and if you use big loops, it can be done fairly easily.  I think it may be the next easiest reliable knot to join braid and flouro/mono.

I no longer use leaders but when I did I used this tool for a nail knot. It is also great for snelling a hook.

 

The nail knot has been used for years in fly fishing, to attach a leader to the fly line. It's interesting to hear that there are other applications for it. I would think the knot would slip on mono/fluoro, or braid. I suppose if it's working for you, keep using it! 

I have trouble tying a uni-uni knot. I've replaced it with the Alberto knot. Perhaps this may be another alternative for you. It is very quick and simple to tie. It's small, and glides through the guides very smoothly.

When fly fishing, I use the nail knot all the time to secure my tippet to the fly line but I don't really understand the nail knot to nail knot concept
